Gill Day

gill-dayOur Playgroup Leader has over 25 years of professional childcare experience, running playgroups around the country.  Gill has worked at The Ladybird Playgroup for 16 very happy years likening her work to “playing for a living”.  She delights in the children’s development and really values the “great team of people” she works with. Gill also has two grown-up children of her own and 3 grandchildren.

Gill fondly recalls one sweet child asking her “Where is your bed?” Many of the children think that the staff live at The Ladybirds Playgroup! Well why would you leave?  There’s so much fun to be had! And she often gets called “Lady” or “Mummy” by the children.

Gill has an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education as well as a Biology degree and is a qualified First Aider. She is SenCo for the group, is ECAT trained and is our designated child protection officer.

Dedicated to child development, Gill is also involved in the running of the local Boys Brigade, helping at The Ark drop-in Toddler Group (when she’s not at The Ladybird Playgroup!) and is part of the wonderful team that puts together the annual children’s Holiday Club at Histon Baptist Church as well as many other children’s activities at the church. Somehow she also manages to spend some time reading, walking and travelling…we reckon she doesn’t sleep!!

Claire Butcher

claire-butcherClaire, our Deputy Playgroup Leader, has been with us for 12 years. Claire enjoys playing, cooking and loves nothing more than “getting messy with the children”. She is very interested in supporting the children in observing and discovering nature in the garden.

Claire delights in the children’s enjoyment of the playgroup environment and their imaginations.  With every new group the children consistently believe “the staff live in the sheds and the garden playhouse” – well there’s one for each of them!

Claire has a CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce and has completed courses in Child Protection, First Aid for Early Years and is the Equality’s named person.

When Claire isn’t getting messy with the children she loves the outdoors – cycling, walking and bird watching – her favourite are penguins! Not too many of those in Cambridgeshire but she likes to travel!

Sharon has a Certificate in Pre-School Practice, and has completed courses in First Aid for Childcare and Child Protection.
