Our Playgroup Leader has over 25 years of professional childcare experience, running playgroups around the country. Gill has worked at The Ladybird Playgroup for 16 very happy years likening her work to “playing for a living”. She delights in the children’s development and really values the “great team of people” she works with. Gill also has two grown-up children of her own and 3 grandchildren.
Gill fondly recalls one sweet child asking her “Where is your bed?” Many of the children think that the staff live at The Ladybirds Playgroup! Well why would you leave? There’s so much fun to be had! And she often gets called “Lady” or “Mummy” by the children.
Gill has an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education as well as a Biology degree and is a qualified First Aider. She is SenCo for the group, is ECAT trained and is our designated child protection officer.
Dedicated to child development, Gill is also involved in the running of the local Boys Brigade, helping at The Ark drop-in Toddler Group (when she’s not at The Ladybird Playgroup!) and is part of the wonderful team that puts together the annual children’s Holiday Club at Histon Baptist Church as well as many other children’s activities at the church. Somehow she also manages to spend some time reading, walking and travelling…we reckon she doesn’t sleep!!
Claire, our Deputy Playgroup Leader, has been with us for 12 years. Claire enjoys playing, cooking and loves nothing more than “getting messy with the children”. She is very interested in supporting the children in observing and discovering nature in the garden.
Claire delights in the children’s enjoyment of the playgroup environment and their imaginations. With every new group the children consistently believe “the staff live in the sheds and the garden playhouse” – well there’s one for each of them!
Claire has a CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce and has completed courses in Child Protection, First Aid for Early Years and is the Equality’s named person.
When Claire isn’t getting messy with the children she loves the outdoors – cycling, walking and bird watching – her favourite are penguins! Not too many of those in Cambridgeshire but she likes to travel!
Sharon is our Toddler Group Leader and a Playgroup Assistant. She has been with us for 18 years, lucky for us! As our longest standing member. Sharon brings commitment, experience and a generous smile to our happy group. She loves “watching the children settle and become confident” during their time at The Ladybird Playgroup. To Sharon’s delight, recently one child said to her “you can come round to mine to play and stay for tea”!
Sharon has a Certificate in Pre-School Practice, and has completed courses in First Aid for Childcare and Child Protection.
Sharon has 2 grown up children and when she’s not busy at Funbugs and Toddlers she can be found watching her son playing football.
Andy always “enjoys coming to work and playing with children”, she fondly recalls a child telling her, she’d named her build a bear Andy.
Andy has completed courses in First Aid for Child Carers and Child Protection. She also has a Diploma in Art & Graphic Design and encourages the children’s creativity.
With 2 school age daughters Andy can be seen about the village on her bike or doing something sporty like tennis. She always has a ready smile for The Ladybird children.
Playgroup assistant Sarah has been with us for 2 years.
Sarah enjoys getting messy with the children and involved in imaginary play.
She says ”There aren’t many jobs where you can get to play all day”. She loves watching the children grow and develop during their time at Ladybird’s.
Sarah has over 20 years experience in childcare and is NNEB qualified and has completed courses in child protection, first aid and ECAT.
She has 2 school aged children and is often seen on the school run by previous children and will always stop to catch up. Sarah is involved in the children’s work within her church and enjoys playing a brass instrument. She also enjoys spending time with her family.
